Radiation toxicity is the harmful effect due to exposure to high amounts of ionizing radiation. The radiation causes DNA damage, abnormal transcription response, gastrointestinal effects such as nausea and vomiting, decreases blood count, hampers normal cell division etc. Treatment of radiation toxicity is generally supportive with blood transfusions and antibiotics and in extreme cases bone marrow transfusion is applied.
